Skyler’s Odd but Interesting Journey, by Archie J. Laycock

Skyler was spending the weekend at the snow with her friends and family. They were staying in a warm, light, cosy cottage. But it wasn’t always like that…

It was late. Skyler and her friends were gossiping, all while her parents were mute. The light from the cottage filled the air. Everything seemed fine—at least, it did then. Until… they heard a long crack in the floorboards.

The lights flickered. They were so overwhelmed that they felt as though the lights had been flickering for an eternity. The cottage became ebony. The lights were non-existent.

They heard footsteps in the snow approaching the cottage. The snow crunched as the footsteps got closer. They heard a knock, followed by a long moment of silence. Skyler and her friends began to panic. They started to squeal, but there was nothing they could do.

After Skyler’s panic had eased, she went to wake her parents. She informed her parents that someone was at the door and that they needed to answer it. Skyler’s parents were getting out of bed when someone knocked again.

Skyler told her parents, “I’ll answer it. You guys get back into bed.”

Skyler answered the door. It turned out to be someone who worked there. Apparently, he was making sure they were okay because there had been noise complaints.

But did he work there?
